As we say goodbye to September, we say hello to October. We've had a phenomenal first month at Good Shepherd and are excited for what's to come. Our grade 3 students have been very busy and have been working hard and well. Let's keep this up!
In Math, students used the apples picked from our apple tree as a source of data for estimation and tallies. Students have collected, represented, and organized data using a variety of graphs learned (bar graphs - vertical and horizontal, pictographs, tally charts) and continue to examine the important parts of a bar graph (proper titles, scale, categories). Our next focus in Math will be exploring Number Sense and Numeration.
In Language, we have an exciting new reading adventure coming soon! More info to come. Students continue to work on Recount writing skills and forming full and complete paragraphs. Opening sentences and a personal thought at the end of a paragraph is an important part of the writing. We continue to emphasize the importance of writing neatly, including writing numerals neatly. Our Learning Commons is now officially open and students have begun signing out books.
Did you know that both Grade 3 classes share teaching time together in the gym every Friday? Ask your child about the wonderful times we've shared so far as a Grade 3 community. Be sure to ask them about the delicious apple crisp that we enjoyed this past Friday :)
